MK Michal Rosin is 45 years old, lives in Petah Tikva and has three children. She is the former CEO of the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel, and received the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award by the Israel Democracy Institution. MK Rosin serves as the chairwoman of the Special Committee on Foreign Workers and of the Lobby for Equality in Employment.
MK Rosin has been actively engaged in the following:
• Introduced two amendments to the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Law, 5758-1998; the first increased the amount of compensation awarded to victims by the court, and the second (also known as the “Motti Malka” law) expanded the definition of the “realm of labour relations” to which the law is applicable.
• Passed a private member’s bill to double the incarceration period of husbands refusing to grant their wives “get” (a requirement for divorce under Jewish family law). MK Rosin also took an active part in the Women of the Wall campaign.
• Passed a private member’s bill for the reduction of usage of plastic bags in supermarkets.
• Successfully campaigned to extend paternal leave for students.
• Submitted a multitude of private member’s bill on sexual violence: to abolish and extend the applicability of the Prescription Law, 5718-1958 in cases of sexual offences committed within the family; to prohibit interviews with minors that are victims of sexual violence without prior court approval; to obligate social workers and teachers to undergo extensive training in identifying and reporting child abuse.
• Led the parliamentary campaign against the Prevention of Infiltration Law 5714-1954, and together with MK Dov Hanin, drafted an alternative solution to benefit both asylum seekers and established residents of south of Tel-Aviv.
• Campaigned for the introduction of measures for protection against missile attacks in agricultural land in the Gaza envelope during Operation Cast Lead, which resulted in a 3.5 million Shekel budget to that end.
• Supported campaigns led by various groups asserting employment rights, including nurses in hospitals and schools, employees of “HOT”, and workers in afternoon child care facilities. She also led debates on matters of employees’ rights in the Lobby for Equality in Employment.
